This is how Mr Praveen Rao resident of C-4 and Mr Neeraj Trehan resident of C-8 met with shared interests and intentions. The former returned from Canada solely with the noble intention to serve his own country.
He is a well-known lawyer and the son of true patriot, retired DCP L. N. Rao. An environment friendly person, he puts all his efforts towards conservation of the same. Mr Neeraj Trehan is the owner of THE VK INFO, a digital platform catering to the needs of Vasant Kunj. He was formerly a Corporate Events manager who loves to explore new technologies and things in life. For him cycling was like returning back to his childhood days where he could bicycle and explore the different parts of Delhi. However, once he got occupied with his professional life, this dream of his got left behind somewhere.
On 6th March 2022, an event was organised under the aegis of Mr Praveen Rao and Mr Neeraj Trehan with the purpose of Coming Together to Celebrate Women’s Day and bicycling to spread the message of “Empowering Women Together”.
The event was a roaring success. The participants (residents of Vasant Kunj from different sectors) in that event demanded for a formation of a club for amateur riders. Both Mr Praveen Rao and Neeraj Trehan who shared the same ideology hence formed a club christened –Vasant Kunj Cycling Club (VKCC). Their sole concept is based on sticking to good old ways of getting around the city and staying fit this way.
It has been almost 16 weeks since the group gathers every weekend on Saturday and Sunday and are very punctual about their meetups. Once a ride concludes collectively a route is finalized in a democratic manner allowing participation of all riders.
Saturday routes are kept shorter approximately within the range of 20-30 kms while Sundays the distances have breached the 50 kms mark.
For instance, the group rode to Mangar Bani on Gurgaon Faridabad Road for their last session which was for 50 KM.
While age is just a number the Vasant Kunj Cycling Club has riders of all age groups, for instance the youngest is 8 year old little girl and the oldest is more than 60 years old.
Vasant Kunj Cycling Club is also on Facebook Page – (https://www.facebook.com/cyclingclubvasantkunj) Group – ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/cyclingclubvasantkunj )and has a WhatsApp group.
There is family like camaraderie which has developed close bonding between the members of this club.
