Beginning of a Positive Change
With a passion to make a difference in the country of his Origin, Praveen Rao, after living and working in Canada for 12 years returned to India and founded an NGO in 2012 by the name of ‘Champions of Positive Change’ (CPC). His vision was to make bring a positive change in society.
From 2018 onwards CPC collaborated with Anant Ehsaas Foundation (AEF), a registered NGO, and together CPC and AEF organised various community events such as Blood Donation Camp, Clothes donation camp, Blanket donation drives, tree plantation drives and many other community-related initiatives.
In the last 10 years CPC and AEF have organised various clothes donation drives and passed on the collected clothing items to recognised NGO’s, however this year the volunteers of the NGO supported by Praveen Rao decided to manage the distribution themselves and give directly to the needy people of Vasant Kunj. Hence a massive clothes donation drive was organised over a month, where over 5000 clothing items were collected and from Vasant Kunj and nearby areas. These donated items were first sorted to ensure that the clothes are in good condition, further, they were washed/dry cleaned where needed and nicely packed to be donated.
The donation process was very well planned and organised, only 6-7 persons were allowed at one time, where they could collect items displayed in Men’s, women and children category. A senior members of the NGO along with the senior members of the slum area handed the blanket and thanked the recipient for their participation.
Managing crowds at clothes/blanket distribution drives are never easy, however with proper planning and a volunteer base of over 20-25 young people this task was handled with ease with proper guidance from Adv. Praveen Rao.
CPC and AEF plan to fill the gap where many people still lack basic clothing and many people want to donate but don’t know how and where. The idea is to encourage local collection and distribution so that donors can feel the difference first-hand.
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of all the donors, various RWA’s of Vasant Kunj which used their locations as drop off points and most importantly partners like ‘All Season’s Dry Cleaners’ who sponsored the laundry and dry cleaning service of these clothes, because of which we were able to donate clothes which looked brand new and in great condition.
